As I sit here on a Sunday morning with a cup of coffee in my hand and the smell of gluten-free waffles made by my Fiance, it feels like a good time to tell our engagement story! Also, it’s still weird to say fiance but a good weird.

So let’s get down to what you’re actually here for – the story of how it all went down! We got engaged on February 12th, 2022 and it was the best day ever!! The days leading up to the 12th were ordinary. I remember meticulously checking the weather app because I knew DC was due for sunshine but I didn’t know when. So around Tuesday of that week, I checked the weather and saw Saturday would be in the high 60s and sunny! I told Sammy and he responded with “we’re going to have a ‘Brey Day’ then”. You’re probably wondering what is Brey Day? Basically, it’s a day full of all of my favorite things, and any activity I want to do, we will do it. Same with restaurants, whatever I’m craving – we’ll eat.

So naturally, I’m pumped for the Brey Day because I’ve been wanting to try a Gluten-Free bagel shop in NYC (a short 3 hour Amtrak ride from DC) and it is the perfect day trip. Sammy agreed that we could go to NYC for the day and told me to pack a few outfits for content – I was so stressed the night before because every single outfit I planned looked terrible and it was New York Fashion week so I had to come correct. My first hint that something was up was when I asked him what time we had to catch the Amtrak and he responded with “UH if we leave around 8 am we should have enough time.” That confused me because the trains run on a set schedule.

Fast forward the morning of February 12th, Sammy wakes me up which is typical because I am not a morning person but then he tells me that we are not getting bagels but instead doing something else. I was relieved because my outfit could be more casual if we were just hanging out at the monuments but Sammy wanted to make sure I dressed nicely. As we finish getting ready, we head to the front door, and out of the corner of my eye I see my charcuterie board and a reusable bag packed nicely – at this point, I assumed we were going to have a picnic at the National Mall but we piled in the car with all of the stuff and headed on our journey. I tried my hardest not to look at the GPS time but then it announced “There is a slowdown on Delaware route 1. My eyes immediately lit up because Delaware is one of my FAVORITE places and I have been dying to go back to the beach. About an hour into the 2-hour drive, Sammy looked over to me and smiled, asking if I knew where we were going. He told me Delaware but I didn’t know why. Once we arrived at the beach, Sammy told me we were going to have a beach picnic and my heart skipped a beat. He got everything out of the car and we headed towards the beach, we were greeted by the sound of the ocean and the heat of the sun.

We mutually decided on the perfect spot to lay down the blanket and once we did Sammy began to unpack the spread of meats, cheeses, fruit, nuts – everything you’d need for a charcuterie board. OH and Champagne, he also brought a bottle of champagne…I would soon find out what we were toasting to.

THE MOMENT: After we stuffed our faces and laid on the beach enjoying the sunshine, he told me he packed my tripod if I wanted to get some content so I went on my merry way and took some beach shots for the gram. I asked him if he wanted to join in the photos and he said “yes, we should take a video so you don’t have to worry about clicking the button”. I thought nothing of it and I hit record on the video but that’s when it happened. Sammy looked over at me and tells me that I’m his best friend and how much he loves doing life with me. I am chuckling the entire time because I laugh when I’m nervous and I didn’t know if this was actually happening (Sammy faked proposed to me on the beach in Malibu, California in 2019 and I’m still recovering). The next thing I knew, he was down on one knee and pulled out the ring box, and asked if I would marry him.

I couldn’t scream yes loud enough.

It was truly the perfect day and I am still on cloud nine that I get to marry my best friend.
